The Guardian interviews Goat

It reads:

In Goat’s dressing room, high above the Coronet theatre in London, are three sofas crammed with people from Sweden. Goatman, the mysterious mastermind behind the enrobed psychedelic dervishes, drags me outside before I can talk to them. Recalling the room later, as if piecing together the scene of a crime, I see in my mind’s eye what could be any rock band from Scandinavia: tall men with lustrous hair, centre-parted, and fair women, some or all of whom are members of Goat.

Their leader wants to conduct his first ever face-to-face interview (no tribal costume, no mask) in a stairwell in the bowels of the building. He leans against a wall with a bottle of beer looking uncomfortable. I sit on a step hoping he’ll join me but he doesn’t, so I’m forced to shoot my questions up at him from his feet.

Let us start with something easy. Can he tell me more about Goat’s famous costumes?

“Well, you know, they’re made of cotton. Most of them,” he says.

It’s going to be a long 18 minutes...

Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation release ‘The State (Im In)’ and announce UK headline tour

‘The State (Im In)’ is Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation’s 2nd single from their new album ‘Mirage’.

The seductive splendour of the ten songs that made up 'Mirage' were jubilantly received across BBC6 Music, climaxing in a Lauren Laverne BBC6 Live session  and a full tour support with fellow Swedes ‘Goat’.

The State (I’m In) has a sense of disorientation that marries a kaleidoscopic aesthetic with a panoramic sensibility, it’s overdriven organ motif radiance is offset by hypnotic rhythmic drive that steadily pulsates throughout.

Listen to State (I'm in)

The B side features a Remix by Al Lover of the bands classic ‘Rushing Through My Mind’, this time forging the ethereal sound of the original layered with strings and some really funky Kraut-disco basslined groove-out.

Listen to Al Lover Remix of Rushing through my mind

The band have also just announced a European headline tour:

25 Feb / Liverpool / Liverpool Central Library (get it loud in libraries)
26 Feb / Newcastle / The Cluny
28 Feb / Glasgow / Broadcast
1 March / Manchester / The Soup Kitchen
2 March / Leeds / The Brudenell Social Club
3 March / Bristol / Louisiana
4 March / London / Moth Club
5 March / Brighton / Green Door
6 March / Oxford / The Bullingdon
7 March /  Birmingham / Hare & Hounds

The Forumist interviews Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation

Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation were interviewed by The Forumist and Josefin did an exclusive photoshoot for them.

It reads:

Psychedelia is made possible by the world’s beautiful outsiders breaking down the boundaries of the inner self and exploring their true passion for expression. The Forumist met up with two pioneering acts of the genre that flowers outside of the popular culture we know today.

During the past few years, psychedelic music has been having a revival all over the world. The sound has grown modern with time, making it less retro and more timeless. Josefin Öhrn and Fredrik Joelson make psychedelic music together as Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation, a band that has played mostly in Europe, including the UK...

Cosmic Roundup – Echoes and Dust interviews Matt Rozeik from Necro Deathmort

It reads:

Necro Deathmort have had an amazing year! An album released on Rocket Recordings, a performance at the Electric Ballroom at Desertfest and much much more! They also headlined the gloomiest Cosmic Carnage ever at the Windmill last April. If guitarist, Matt Rozeik is not busy enough with that, he also runs his own DIY label called Extreme Ultimate. Here’s what he thinks about all the stuff that went down in 2016.

(((o))): Hi Matt , how are you?
I’m good thanks, me old China!

(((o))): Your album came out on Rocket which was a bit of a surprise. They focus on psych and I’ve always thought of you as a doom band. How did it come about?

Rocket were aware of us and we just sent them the album. I guess they are primarily known as a psych label, but I don’t think that label strictly applies to Gnod and Teeth Of The Sea, so they definitely have other strings to their bow. I think people have different ideas about the sort of band we are – while we most definitely have an affinity with doom and play with a lot of doom bands, I don’t...

The Crack magazine previews Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs

It reads:

HEY! JUST LOOK AT THESE PIGS!
This is Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (yep, really). They’re from Newcastle and they make some of the most thrilling music that you’re liable to hear all year.
There are some north-east acts that I come across that leave me thinking: “Have I seen this lot before? Their name rings a bell…” but I’m pretty sure I would have remembered a local outfit trading by the name of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (their mothers call them Pigs x 7). But talk about creeping up on your blindside and then grabbing you by the giblets. For – make no mistake! – this band conjure up the kind of racket that feels like someone is jamming a Hoover up your blouse, and I’m now totally enthralled. If you’re looking to slap a label on them, I suppose you’ve got to opt for “Rock”, but they bang it out with a capital Rrrr and, amongst all their fiery riffs, they’ve carved some monumental tunes which sound like Motörhead trying on a pair of krautrocking trousers. Their debut album, Feed The Rats, is released on 20 January by Rocket Records and runs to precisely three songs. The running length, however, is around 37 minutes, with two tracks tipping the scales at over 15 minutes each (with not an ounce of flab, either). And their album launch party should be a cracking gig as supporting are Newcastle’s Tough Tits (FYI: Amazing) with Candy Vortex supplying the décor and visuals. There will also be DJs until 1am. If you’re looking to banish those January blues then I suggest you make a real pig pig pig pig pig pig pig of yourself and grab a ticket, pronto.

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs + Tough Tits + DJs, Friday 20 January, St. Dominics Catholic Club (opp. Tanners Pub), Crawhall Road, Newcastle, 8pm, £5. wegottickets.com

Clash premieres Gnoomes remix of Caverns of Anti Matter track

Being huge fans of the great Stereolab we are exciting to share this great Gnoomes Remix of Caverns of Anti Matter's track 'Pantechnicon'

See what Clash Magazine say about the remix here: Clash

This is what CoAM's Tim Gane says of the remix:
"Sparkling remix. Refocuses the track somewhere else completely and they totally make it their own in the process. Some other kind of landscape has developed in place of the original and it's exciting to discover these new worlds."

And Gnoomes say:
"We’d heard Void Beats / Invocation Trex exactly the day when it was released and 'Panthecnicon' it became one of our favourites on the first listen. Later we went touring over Italy and this very track was the great soundtrack of our journey, riding from Italy to France along the French Rivera and listening to this song. Its repetitive structure and harmonies were a kind of audial picturesque additions to the most beautiful landscapes we’d ever seen. It seemed that our trip would never end and maybe that euphoria brought us a wish to make a remix of this song, to give our vision of it."

Gnoomes have just finished their follow up to last years album Ngan!, more details to follow in the New Year...and all we can say so far is it is sounding a bit special!

The Ransom Note premiere KURO - Arashi video

The Ransom Note have premiered the video for KURO - Arashi

Watch the video here: The Ransom Note

The video was made by Rocket's very own Johnny O.

Ransom note says:

"The mood in the room lay dark and quiet. There was little sound to be heard but for the buzz of instrumentation..."

We here at Ransom Note can sometimes struggle to seperate ourselves from the world of distorted electronics, drums and noise. However, when we do it often takes something quite remarkable and and at times captivatingly odd to make us pay attention. KURO achieved the above with a resounding yes.

As a result we opted to cover and we were delighted to be offered an exclusive first play of their brand new music video for 'Arashi' which sees a dark room set alive with the sound and whir of ambient music."

The Digital Fix reviews Necro Deathmort show at Corsica

On Saturday, Necro Deathmort abused the amazing sound system at Corsica Studios supporting Dalek, and The Digital Fix said the following:

In support we have local boys Necro Deathmort and their own their own mix of swirling electronica, earthquake-inducing beats and reverb-drenched distorted guitars. Shifting from tone-driven ambience to pulsating dance, it is a surprisingly varied set that is engaging and rather enjoyable. Wreathed in darkness and hidden behind an impressive array of synths and desks, the bass-driven rumble both liquidises the innards and relaxes the brain.

Al Lover rewires Josefin Öhrn’s ‘Rushing Through My Mind’

Nothing But Hope And Passion have premiered Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation 'Rushing Through My Mind' Al Lover Remix.

This is what the website said:

'We’re long-term fans of JOSEFIN ÖHRN + THE LIBERATION here at NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION, having first covered her way back in May 2015. She released the heavy-duty psychedelia of her second full-length, Mirage, a couple of months back, and now San Francisco producer AL LOVER has taken on and remixed that record’s sprawling lead single, Rushing Through My Mind, and we’re delighted to be able to present you with an exclusive first listen.

LOVER‘s touch on the single is subtle. Leaving the song’s DNA largely untouched, he draws out the song’s inherent trippyness by burying the vocals deeper in the mix and layering up the haze.

Goat's Requiem features at number 28 in the NME's top albums of the Year 2016.

This is what the NME says:

Self-confessed Swedish psych oddballs Goat embraced 1970s British folk and film on their third album, adding the pagan virgin-burning pop vibes of ‘The Wicker Man’ to their lush sound. From the cult-ish panpipes to the hypnotic rhythms and Afro-funk inspiration that peppered that album........

Introducing Julie’s Haircut – Invocation and Ritual Dance of My Demon Twin

We are excited to announce that Rocket will be releasing the new album by Italian band Julie's Haircut called 'Invocation and Ritual Dance of my Demon Twin' on 17 February 2017.

Preorder on Ltd LP/CD here: Rocket

Preorder digital here: iTunes

See what Loud and Quiet say about the album here: Loud and Quiet

The press release reads:

“Being from Italy and doing what we do - we are outsiders” reckons Luca Giovanardi, a founder member of Julie’s Haircut, whose always incendiary yet increasingly outlandish sound has found itself with few parallels in their homeland since their inception towards the end of the last century. Yet in following their own singular pathway, the band have arrived at the deep-end approach to sonic innovation audible on their debut release for Rocket Recordings, ‘Invocation And Ritual Dance Of My Demon Twin’, which finds them at a plateau of small-hours elucidation and revelation that may summon the spectres of the wayward squall of Mercury Rev, the shamanic allure of Dead Skeletons or the wild soundscapes of Amon Düül II to some, yet essentially sounds like no-one but themselves.

Inspired by the methods of Can and Miles Davis, the band follow intuitive processes to transcend notions of classicism, genre and contemporary reference, somewhere in motion along the pathways of the consciousness-expanding psychedelic continuum without paying lip-service to its well-worn signifiers. The result is a record built on trance-like repetition that builds to mantric intensity to summon atmospheric plateaus redolent of the psychic and surreal transgressions of its title - a double-helix tribute to both Frank Zappa and Kenneth Anger.

As Luca elaborates, "For me, if anything, psychedelic music has always been about adventure and loss of any safety net". Rest assured, 'Invocation And Ritual Dance Of My Demon Twin' offers no such security at all.

The band are now booking EU tour for May, contact: cormass@gmail.com
